Wide Open — Prepared for Flying Lotus · Knockdown Center, New York · Interactive budget, all levers yours
Wide Open Newspapers × Flying Lotus
A limited-edition newspaper for one night — Knockdown Center, September 26 · never reprinted · never discounted
01 — The idea, simply
A limited edition, numbered
A newspaper made for this one night — the room, the date, the setlist, the writing. Run capped and numbered; when it sells out at the table it is gone forever. Scarcity is real and dated, so it carries a higher price point than a poster.
02 — The two financial structures
Who pays, who earns what
Structure 1 — We finance it
~$2,700 to Flying Lotus
Wide Open pays for everything — design, print, shipping. Costs recoup off the top, then the net splits 60/40 in the artist's favor. You write no checks and carry zero risk. For a single night, this is the structure we'd honestly recommend.
Structure 2 — You finance it
~$4,000 to Flying Lotus
You cover production at cost — ~$1,100 upfront (print ~$600 + our design & production fee, $500 flat for a single show) — and keep everything else. It beats Structure 1 from the baseline up — push price or the % of the room and the whole upside is yours.
03 — Budget playground
Limited edition, numbered
Every number is a lever — drag them and the budget recalculates for the night. Capacity is a concert-configuration estimate; true it and everything moves.
Print cost is dynamic — computed from our printer's volume curve and held between $2.00 and $3.00 per copy at any run size: currently –. Split fixed at 60/40 in the artist's favor (Structure 1). Design & production (Structure 2 only): $500 for a single show.

The night, at your settings
Capacity is a concert-configuration estimate — true it against ticketed capacity and the row recalculates. A dated, numbered edition tends to over-index a headline crowd, so the % lever is where to push.
Methodology per our standard model: hall fee on venue sales · 5% shrinkage & CC on venue gross · print costed on volume tiers · excludes sales tax.
04 — How it runs
Production & next steps
EditorialImagery from the Flying Lotus archive under one-time license, commissioned photography, or his creative team. Essays, sleeve-style writing, the record's history with this city. Approval at concept, layout, and final — every page.
Logistics2–3 weeks concept-to-print. Production and shipping are one week; design is the only real variable. Shipped with the merch, sold through your existing table and POS — no staffing burden.
Next1 · Pick product and structure. 2 · True the capacity and venue fee — everything recalculates. 3 · Archive access + concept session. 4 · If it works, this becomes the format for the next run.
05 — The work & the precedent
Our work
The precedent
The artist newspaper has half a century of collector history — priced like art, not merch.
